The Tap Room (In the Somerset Hills Hotel)
200 Liberty Corner Rd
Warren

(Note:  I was very drunk before getting to this bar, so some of the details that I missed
were provided by the less intoxicated Steve Thomas.)

On Sunday (not usually the heaviest drinking day of the week) I joined with some of my
oldest friends to celebrate the wedding of NJ Barflys, Stimpy and Jenn.  Yes, ladies, I
hate to break the news, but he's now a taken man.  I still encourage you all to send
erotic pictures to him c/o

After a wonderful celebration at the Berkley Plaza, in Berkeley Heights, we retired to
The Somerset Hills Hotel, or more to the point, The Tap Room.  Most of us, especially
me, were pretty drunk before we even got there.  At one point, the picture evidence
shows that I put on the brides white fur lined cape.  I was then told by my friends that I
looked like a gay Jedi knight.

It was a nicely furnished bar in a Vermont Ski Resort style.  There were not too many
people there who were not part of the wedding, perhaps 10, but as the place was small
and cozy, this suited us fine.  There was a TV with football on in the corner, and there
may have been some music, but the great thing was that it was possible to have a
conversation with people and not be shouting or straining to hear them.  A great place
to go with someone you actually give a crap enough to listen to.

The bartender was very cute and also knowledgeable which helps as they have a well
stocked selection of wines and spirits.  Beers were $4 a piece which is a little expensive,
but it was a hotel bar, so I couldn't complain.  Even when she announced last call, it was
very polite and apologetic, and we were truly sad to put the night to rest.  In fact, I was
so saddened by this that PJ and I had to rescue some beer freezing in my car and drink
it at various locations through out the hotel.

If you're visiting NJ for a state-wide bar tour you could certainly do worse than begin
with a stay at The Somerset Hills Hotel and a warm-up lap in The Tap Room.

Good Point about the bar:  I could get as drunk as I wanted, and all I had to do was
wander back upstairs to my room.

Bad Point about the bar:  When you are that drunk, getting back upstairs to your hotel
room becomes a formittable task and I ended up just talking to PJ in the womens room
until about 4 AM, much to the dismay of the numerous women that had to pee.  Luckily
Tami found us and brought us back upstairs.

White trash factor (1-10):  9 - It was Stimpy's wedding after all.  It would have been a
10, but my presence classed it up a bit.

Chachi Guido factor:  1

Ratio of girls to guys:  1/1 - Pretty much the only people there were from the wedding.
I'm sure this ratio is different on a weekend.

Crowd density:  Med/Low - See comment after Ratio of girls to guys.

Age of the crowd: Varied based on the people staying at the hotel

Overall rating:   5 - I was too drunk to remember a lot about this bar, which is usually a
good thing, but most of the alcohol I consumed was before I got there at the reception.
If all of my friends weren't there the bar would have totally sucked.  Then again, it was a
Sunday night and it was a hotel bar, so my expectations weren't that high.  The bar
tender was nice too.
