| Skeeter's Pub and Liquors Coles Rd at Rt 168 Blackwood May 21, 2005 It was Lisa's birthday so we decided to head out to Blackwood to a bar named Skeeters. It wasn't until I sat down to write this review that I discovered that the bar is actually in Blenheim. I think Blenheim is still a part of Blackwood, so we'll just call it that until someone tells me otherwise. It was raining pretty hard when we arrived at about 9 and there were very few people there. The crowd got bigger as the night went on though. The bar was pretty big. It was a large rectangular bar with a good sized dining area filled with tables. It had the feel of a local bar where people came to get hammered. Along one wall there was a bar style shuffle board (see pic below). In a small separate room there was a pool table. From 9 until midnight they had $1 Miller Lites for the ladies and $1.50 Miller Lites for the men. There was a DJ there, but there was only about ten square feet of dance floor. If they were smart, they would move some of the unoccupied tables away to form a dance floor. This idea hasn't hit them yet. The dance floor also doubled as the dart board area. They told everybody to stop playing darts so people could dance. The dance floor then remained empty for at least an hour and a half. The DJ was cool in that he played requests, yet he was a total asshole at the same time. Later on in the evening I staggered over to him and requested "It's Your Birthday" by 50 Cent. He just looked at me and sarcastically said, "I assume you mean 'In the Club'?" Now I wanted to say, "Give me a fucking break dipshit!", but I decided that that probably wouldn't be conducive to getting my song played. By the closing time, we were all pretty much done. Lisa had to be carried out of the bar because she lost the ability to walk somewhere around midnight. We all had a good time and I'm sure I'll find my way back to Skeeters again in the future. Good Point about the bar: Ron, the resident drunk guy, is there almost every night. I went over and talked to him and he told me that he's been coming there since he was 18 or for the last 43 years. He then proceeded to tell me his whole life story. He wouldn't let me take his picture though. Bad Point about the bar: This really isn't about the bar itself, but Lisa asked us if she looked thinner. She just started going to the gym like a week or two before. Without thinking I said, "Yeah, you look at a lot thinner." I guess it was pretty obvious that I was just saying that to make her feel good. She gave me the dirtiest look and then walked away. By the time I saw her again, it was a while later and she was drunk, so I am just going to assume that it was water under the bridge. White trash factor (1-10): 6 Ratio of girls to guys: 1/1 - There was actually a good number of women there. The number of "attractive" women is a different story. Crowd density: Medium - For a Saturday night I would have thought it would have been a little busier. Age of the crowd: 21-50 -this bar doesn't discriminate. Everyone was welcome. Overall rating: 6 – Over all it was a pretty cool bar. It had cheap beers and a DJ as well as a pool room. Here is a pic of the shuffle board table. |
