Double Deuce Saloon

I headed west down Rt 30 into Camden County on Good Friday.  I guess Good
Friday is a big party night, because there were cops everywhere.  I was actually
getting a little worried and contemplated going somewhere a little closer to home.
Every few miles or so, an officer would pull out or make a U-turn behind me and
follow me for several miles.  I had my radar detector on though and all of the police in
this area have their radars on constantly, so I figured I would be alright.

I walked into the Double Deuce Saloon, not too sure of what I would find inside.  My
first impression was that it was 1989 all over again.  This was a place where the 80’s
were still going strong.  The women all had the high hair and 80’s style clothing.  Now
I understand that the whole retro 80’s fashion is starting to make a comeback, but I
doubt that these people knew that it ever went out of style.  I also noticed that all of
the light covers were red, even the pool table lights.  This is starting to become a
pattern.  If anyone knows why these crappy bars all have annoying red lights, please
let me know.  I mean, I like my bars rather dim, but red just gets me in an angry
aggressive mood.  I just want to grab the POS sitting next to me, and SMASH of GOD
DAMN BEER BOTTLE OVER HIS…sorry, I got a little carried away there.  Maybe I
don’t get quite that angry.

The bar looked like a typical local bar.  The walls were decorated with neon beers
signs, a few beer mirrors and a deer head.  The bar itself was a decent size and
formed a large L shape.  There was a pool table in the back and surprisingly a digital
jukebox on the wall.  Behind the bar on the wall were at least $500 in $1’s all taped
up with quirky messages on them.   There were even a few $5’s and I think I saw a
$3, but I got a little suspicious at that one.

The bartender Melany came over and in a beautiful voice asked what I wanted to
drink.  Actually she sounded more like she had a trache in her throat.  I am just going
to assume she was sick or lost her voice or something.  She was very nice though
and I talked to her for a little while and told her what I was doing.  It was about 1:
00AM and the bar had a medium to low crowd density.  She told me that on
Wednesdays and Fridays, the bar is open until 6 AM.  At about 3 the bar was going
to fill up as the other bars in the area closed.  As much as I wanted to witness this, I
didn’t want to sit here for another 2 hours, so I promised that I would be back
someday.

Good Point about the bar:
They are open until 6 on Wednesdays and Fridays.

Bad Point about the bar:
The red lights.

White trash factor (1-10):  10

Ratio of girls to guys:  1/1 - There were actually a lot of women here.  The bar wasn’t
really all that crowded though, so this could have thrown off the numbers a bit.

Crowd density:  Medium/Low

Age of the crowd: twenties to forties

Overall rating: 5 – Although this bar would make a decent local watering hole, it was
pretty crappy.   I gave it a higher rating than it deserved only because they are open
until 6 two days a week and apparently it gets crazy busy and cool.  For all I know
this bar could be totally kick ass at 3 when it fills up, but I left early and had to rely on
the bartenders word.  Maybe if I come back late night some time, I’ll reconsider the
rating.

Here's a pic I took inside.  It really doesn't do the bar justice.
Here's a pic of the sign outside.
