| Bowers Country Palace 373 Route 54 Buena (856) 697-1475 I decided to venture outward and explore unchartered territory. I just set out driving and decided to let fate decide my next town. After driving for a while, I decided to stop in the lovely town of Buena. I pulled into the parking lot and the sign said “Live Country Music”. I knew this was going to be interesting before I even stepped inside. The first thing that hit me when I walked inside was the color red. The bar, the chairs and the tablecloths were all bright red. I was suddenly brought back to my high school psychology class and remembered something about the color red making people more aggressive. Excellent, this was just what I needed. I looked toward the back of the bar and hanging on the wall was a giant confederate flag. This would have been expected, if I was doing West Virginia Bar Fly. I looked around at the clientele as I circled to the opposite side of the bar and I noticed that many of the people donned cowboy hats and several were wearing camouflage. The jungle camouflage did a lot to hide them against the bright red bar. Another popular fashion in the bar was the mesh backed trucker cap. Unfortunately, I left my trucker cap and camo at home, so I stuck out a little. I also had all of my teeth. It was quite obvious that I did not belong there. I sat down at the bar and had myself a bottle of Bud that ran me about $3. That was what most of the people seemed to be drinking. Ordering a Grey Goose Martini straight up with a twist just seemed wrong. Good Point about the bar: The live country music was actually kind of cool. Bad Point about the bar: It was a much older crowd and there wasn’t one attractive female in the entire bar. White trash factor (1-10): 9 Ratio of girls to guys: 1/4 Crowd density: Medium/Low Age of the crowd: thirties to fifties Overall rating: 3 – Although the bar kind of sucked, it did have a giant confederate flag in the back, which definitely gave it some character. I talked to a few people in there who were playing pool and they seemed nice enough. The red was irritating enough for me not to really want to come back to this bar, but if you are in the area, I would check it out, especially if you are a fan of country music. Although I didn’t take any pictures in this bar for fear that I would be beaten, I did journey to the Buena Tavern down the street after I left. The bar itself was pretty crappy, but I met some really cool locals in there and the bartender was attractive and possibly a little inebriated, but I can’t confirm that. Everyone in the bar made me feel at home. Here is a pic of the sign out front. For some reason I find the second pic amusing. |
