April 29, 2006

Today was my third favorite holiday behind St. Patrick's Day and Octoberfest.  The Somers Point Bay festival is
a celebration of arts and crafts, food, music and of course alcohol.  This is the first year in a while that the
weathers been really nice, so it was absolutely packed.  I arrived on Bay Ave at around 1:00 and this was the
scene on the street.
Here's a picture of a guy juggling and doing cool tricks with balls and stuff.  He stopped right before I
took the picture.
Here are some revolutionary guys firing guns and reenacting the not so well known battle of Somers Point.  I
believe Washington's army crossed the bay from Ocean City on Christmas and attacked the Hessian forces
here.  Ok, maybe I just made that up.  I have no idea why the revolutionary guys were firing guns, but it
looked pretty cool.
There were a lot of bands in various locations all over Bay Ave.  Here's a Celtic band, Birnam Wood.  I've
never seen so many people playing the bag pipes at one time before, but they sounded really good.  I wasn't
sure what they were wearing under those kilts though, and one strong breeze could give me a visual I could
do without, so after a few songs I moved on to check out the other bands.
Here's a shot of the hard rock band, Stage 3 playing.  They sounded really good as well.
After checking out all of the bands, looking at of the tents selling arts and crafts type stuff and eating a couple
crab cake sandwiches, I decided it was time for beer.  I went over to the Anchorage and it was just crazy
packed.  The parking lot was fenced off and there were multiple beer trucks.  It was so packed, it was
difficult to move.  To avoid constantly going back through the crowd to order more beer, I just ordered two
at a time and double fisted them.  It was $3 for a Miller or $4 for a Fosters.  Here are a couple of shots of the
parking lot.
Well, now that I was nice and lit up in the middle of the afternoon, I decided to head home and take a nap so
I could continue drinking later on in the evening.  As usual, the Bay Festival didn't disappoint and I think
most of the people there would agree with me.  Maybe Bayfest 2007 will be even better.
